Do I need a referral?
1to1 Rehab receives referrals from the Toronto Central, Central and Central West Local Health Integration Networks (LHIN) for rehabilitation services. Clients need an active OHIP number. There are no fees for the LHIN services provided by 1to1 Rehab.
Children and adults who require therapy services at home may contact the LHIN directly to request a referral. Many referrals are made by physicians, hospitals, long term care facilities, early intervention services, etc.
Public and Catholic school boards refer their students for therapy to the LHINs for services of speech language pathology, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Typically these school boards use their school consultants to make the referral. Contact your school to make a referral.
Private schools contract 1to1 Rehab to provide LHIN funded School Health Support Services for their students. 1to1 Rehab will assist with the process and will provide therapy to the students in the school.
Private service under 1to1 Therapy Services does not need a referral. Contact us directly to make an appointment.
Do I need to wait for service?
1to1 Rehab receives referrals from the Local Health Integration Networks. The LHINs have long waitlists for therapy unless there is an urgent safety or health concern. The wait is particularly long for school speech language pathology and occupational therapy. You can contact the LHIN directly about information on wait times.
Private schools can make referrals for LHIN school services. There is no wait list for private school therapy services.
Can I use my insurance to pay for therapy?
Yes- If you wish to receive private therapy, 1to1 has developed a new service for therapy: 1to1 Therapy Services . 1to1 facilitates service between public funded therapy with 1to1 Rehab and our private therapy services. A number of the therapists provide LHIN services under 1to1 Rehab and also private services with 1to1 Therapy Services. Both services and administrative support are under the 1to1 umbrella of therapy services.
Services are provided by a registered allied health professional, and therapy is tax deductible. For insurance coverage of fees, you will need to inquire with your insurance provider how much coverage is available for each service area (i.e. Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Behavioural Therapy, Dietitian Services and Physiotherapy). You may have a set amount available annually. The clinical coordinator can also make recommendations for private funding available for families in need. 1to1 is committed to making therapy accessible to clients and families in need of service.
How long are therapy sessions?
Assessments and therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes to one hour in length. The length of each session will largely depend on the clients’ ability to sustain their attention for the set period of time and client needs. The therapist will be able to make a recommendation for the length and frequency of therapy sessions based on client needs. The LHIN has guidelines for the number of therapy visits and frequency and authorizes a set number of sessions paid under the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care or the Ministry of Children and Youth. 1to1 Rehab follows the LHIN guidelines. If the client wishes additional services, 1to1 Therapy will be able to respond.
