Client Rights

As a patient, family member, substitute decision-maker or caregiver, you have the right to expect that every 1to1 Rehab Director, Employee or Therapist, shall respect and promote your rights as follows:

  1. You have the right to be treated kindly and without any kind of abuse—physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, or financial.
  2. You should be treated in a way that protects your privacy, confidentiality, values your independence, and includes you in decisions about your care.
  3. Your care should respect your personal needs, values, and preferences—including your cultural, family, language, and spiritual background.
  4. You must not be treated unfairly based on race, gender, religion, age, or any other protected ground under the law.
  5. If you are First Nations, Métis, or Inuk, you have the right to care that respects your culture and background.
  6. You have the right to clear, easy-to-understand information about your care, in a format that works for you.
  7. You should take part in deciding what care you need and help update your care plan as things change.
  8. You can have a support person, advocate or service animal with you during assessments, during therapy and when making or updating your care plan.
  9. To have high quality services and supports with qualified therapists, in safe, clean and accessible location.
  10. You have the right to agree to or refuse any part of your care and withdraw consent.
  11. You have a right to access your health record.
  12. You can give feedback or make complaints about your care or policies without being punished or treated unfairly.
  13. You should be told about the laws and policies affecting your care and how to file a complaint in writing if needed.

Client RESPONSIBILITIES

Just as you have rights and expectations as a client, you also have responsibilities. Your responsibility as a client is to:

  1. Be kind and respectful to your therapists and all 1to1 Rehab staff. Do not use hurtful language, make threats, or act in a violent or abusive way. Discrimination or harassment is not okay.
  2. Make sure the environment is safe for your therapist by:
  • Not smoking or vaping during visits
  • Keeping pets secured
  • Clearing ice or snow from walkways and keeping them well-lit
  • Putting away any illegal or dangerous items (like weapons)
  1. Be involved and work with your therapist in all parts of your treatment.
  2. Provide accurate and updated personal and health information.
  3. Be on time and prepared for your scheduled visits.
  4. Tell your therapist or 1to1 Rehab employee ahead of time if you can’t make it to an appointment.
  5. If you have a concern or compliment, talk to your therapist, a 1to1 Rehab staff member, or file a complaint using the official process at:

Clients, therapists and 1to1 Rehab employees share the responsibility to make sure the clients rights are respected. If a therapist ever feels unsafe they have the right to leave immediately and will report the situation to the Risk and Privacy Officer right away.
